Mehdi emerged from a tapestry of family and heritage, fusing culture and appreciation of centuries of craftsmanship. The brand draws on nuances of the designer’s family, who lived in the British countryside and embraced a semi-sufficient lifestyle. This was a family that cultivated their own gardens, harvested homegrown food, made their own clothes and upholstered their furniture. The Designer’s grandmother, who was a botanical artist and their grandfather, a builder, created a self-contained world of their own.

A combined British and Iraqi heritage plays a significant role to the Mehdi brand, embracing both cultural influences, resulting in designs that pay homage to SWANA artists, clothing, architectural beauty, and music.

Locally sourced materials are incredibly integral to the brand’s identity, so all designs are crafted from a mixture of British spun wool, dead-stock materials and fabric made in the UK.
