About the Artist
Her mediums span from natural dyeing and anti-colonial color theory to political mural and poster painting, while she also explores music, dance, and poetry as a DJ. Anurima’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in her work as a community organizer and public health worker, and she has facilitated numerous workshops with working-class, youth, queer, formerly and currently incarcerated, and houseless communities.
Through her community engaged practices, Anurima seeks to blend art with social justice, exploring how creativity can be a powerful tool for activism and change. Her work prioritizes creating spaces that encourage collective action and resilience. However, much of her visual art explores the mundane of the world around her and culture, linking back to messy play, abstract wonder, and deep connection to other beings (human or not).
She is committed to dismantling borders—whether physical, cultural, or social—and to fostering well-being through partnership and creative collaboration.
