Srijani Foundation is a not for profit organization working towards the preservation and promotion of traditional handlooms and continuous skill up-gradation of weavers of Bihar. Bunkar Bihar is its brand that showcases the textiles and handmade products made by the rural communities of the state. The Foundation was registered in Patna, Bihar, under Societies Registration Act 21, 1860 on 24th September 2015 with grant aid from Tata Trust in January 2016 for a project titled ‘Weaving for a Living’. Our interventions in rural Bihar helped to set-off a movement that has influenced and empowered 275 families of women and men to step forward for livelihood opportunities.

About the craft

Applique` is the traditional embroidery of Bihar. It involves using scraps of fabric pieces to embellish a fabric surface which could be weIt involves cutting the fabric, according to the design drawn on it and folding the edges inside with the needle and thread onto the base fabrics, at times followed by fine running stitches of Sujni, the GI tag on the state. This technique not only embellishes the fabric, but also helps recycle over pieces which elevates us to being conscious keeprs of Mother Earth
