Collection: Pagal Canvas

Pagal Canvas is an independent, non-profit, artist-led publication platform, where we print artist books, comics, graphic novels, and zines. It was started by Mohit Mahato and Anand Shenoy, then art students within the premises of the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore in 2017. The intention was to start a visual-oriented publishing house, constituting colleagues and students—who were and continue to be our primary reader base—to compensate for the lack of any collective effort and conversations between different departments within the art college and explore more ways in which art practices could be shared, showcased, circulated, and be collaborated upon. The initial idea was to explore zines, comix, and other narrative-friendly,
reproducible mediums akin to publications and books, in interaction with physical print culture, made collaboratively at the college’s printmaking department using manual printmaking techniques and low-budget materials, and try to build a community through producing printed material and circulating them at a minimal price and also organizing reading and sharing sessions.
