Embarking on a month-long celebration of Women's History Month. Highlighting the inspiring stories of the women artists who empower No Borders Through a captivating photo series photographed and directed by Zayira ray 📸 Styled in No Borders in-house and some of our favourite designer pieces.

Women that are redefining Art, Culture, Roots & Resistance 🌹

The series will unveil narratives of each woman on redefining the art world, preserving culture & heritage. Telling stories of artists, artisans, designers & craft visionaries, whose past stories and experiences translate in everything we do even today.

Artists that will be featured this month 🌹

  • NILOFER SULEMAN

    Nilofer, a pioneering watercolor artist, blends Mughal miniature styles with personal storytelling and humor. Through her art, she preserves India's lost street culture, capturing vibrant scenes of hand-painted signboards and shopkeepers. Believing women artists are crucial to shaping the future, she envisions Mughal art resonating globally. Inspired by her daughter, Nilofer is eager to explore how art can evolve today while bridging generations.

  • USHA PAWAR

    Usha Pawar, a renowned Kasuti artist, is celebrated for her unique eye and passion for this ancient embroidery. At 73, with over 25 years of experience and a National Award in 2016, she preserves Kasuti techniques and shares her knowledge. Usha has been key in reviving Kasuti, helping us create our Kasuti tapestry that brings stories to life. She believes Kasuti, though tied to women’s emotions, is a craft that can be mastered by both women and men.

  • THARANGINI STUDIO

    Tharangini, a women-led block printing studio, preserves rare prints from the 60s and 70s. Led by Padmini Govind, it has transformed block printing for a global audience. Founded in the 1960s by Lakshmi Srivathsa, Tharangini is Bangalore’s oldest heritage textile studio, pioneering sustainable textiles focused on craftsmanship and equality.

  • LATHA PUTTANNA

    Latha Puttanna is a passionate, unapologetically liberal artist redefining Deccan art and heritage through fashion. Inspired by her mother’s avant-garde design, she approaches traditional motifs with a modern eye, using unique colors and embroidery. Reinventing heritage, her designs tell stories through intricate details, blending past and present to push fashion boundaries.

About the photographer

Zayira Ray is an Indian-American photographer, specialising in portrait and fashion photography. Raised in New York City, her work is deeply influenced by themes of love, belonging, and community, with a strong emphasis on enhancing the representation of women of color and highlighting stories from the South Asian diaspora.

Her photography has been featured in publications such as Vogue India, The New York Times, ELLE, i-D, Architectural Digest, and Vogue Magazine, and more.
