Kantha Patchwork Cropped Jacket
Cropped jacket with poetic Kantha patches resembling a vibrant story of Bengals neighborhoods, the village markets, the day-to-day whereabouts of a typical day in their village, of local sellers and street vendors, all through the lens of the women telling attitudes through their age-old embroidery technique. A FUNctional half sleeves jacket, lightweight and with ample room for all your carry-ons in its four asymmetrical pockets. Adventurous yet rooted in its technique; perfect for a concert or a flea market. Put it on over a tee and be assured that you are contributing to keeping this technique alive.
WHO, WHEN, WHERE, AND HOW
The carefully stitched and lovingly crafted Kantha patches are made by our Artisan Ajija Sultana. Ajija and her team of women artisans embroider this vibrant story on a locally sourced fabric. The designs are inspired by everyday scenes at the village and markets of Bengal. The artwork/motifs are first hand-drawn by the local hand-drawing experts or the artisan herself, and then traced onto the fabric, and then hand embroidered using colorful mercerized cotton threads in a classic running stitch pattern on locally sourced materials.
This unique and exclusive work of art is a heavy labor and time-consuming process that requires 3 months of time to embroider by our Kantha artists. Kindly allow this time for them to send this to you with love.
