What we are

Mothered by Mridu Mehra, Kokūn is intuitively drawn to nature in its inspiration and processes. Resulting in unique pieces, very unlike something mass-produced or picked from a mall. Their endeavor is to preserve and promote ancient practices of textiles in the most sustainable way possible. They source fabrics locally from handloom clusters in India and work with rural women in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, where they extract color from flowers, leaves, berries, roots and give them a second life through their clothes.

Who we work with

We have a dyeing unit setup at Raghuram Village, where we have trained local women to do all the necessary techniques using traditional methods, which are chemical free.
Our unbleached raw handloom fabrics are sourced from small weavers in Murshidabad(West Bengal) and Mukteshwar (Uttarakhand). The dyed fabrics are then stitched at our workshop in Lucknow.

Since we are dedicated towards creating exclusive handmade pieces, engaging local women helps us manifest our vision of slow making, natural dyeing and hand stitching. Mentoring and training local women with weekly workshops - of natural dyeing along with embroidery, packaging, sewing, paper recycling etc.
This in turn helps them achieve self reliance. Currently, we are 5 women team at our dyeing unit and the stitching unit is supported by 3 people (including a cutting master, the only male in minority :))
